Judas Arrieta dibuja compulsivamente imágenes inspiradas en el manga y la imaginería popular asiática. Por ello, se define a si mismo como manga artistay defiende la pintura como deporte. Su obra liga realidad y ficción tanto como en su vida: “El elemento japanium y la aleacion Z son dos palabras que constantemente van unidas a mi obra, palabras y forma de ser”, ha llegado a decir. Así, sus obras provocan que el espectador se pregunte qué parte esta inspirada en un cómic y qué parte proviene de la realidad.

Arrieta dibuja y pinta estableciendo distintas capas, distintas dimensiones. En cada una de ellas parece estar plasmado un nivel de lenguaje diferente: la ficción, la realidad, lo tradicional, lo moderno. lo asiático, lo occidental. Cambiando de registro continuamente y ofreciendo al espectador una explosión de frases de variable interpretación. “Si sabes leer formas, líneas y colores, encontrarás mil historias diferentes en las que perderte”, dice Judas. “Tendras lo que para mi es el arte: devolver lo que a uno le han dado.” Y en su caso Astroboy, MazingerZ, Doraemon, Shin Chan, Power Rangers. Un homenaje a la cultura pop de este heredero de la tradición de influencia asiática que tanta importancia tuvo en los artistas del siglo XIX, y de la cultura del cómic que tanto influyó a los artistas del siglo XX.

Judas Arrieta compulsively draws images inspired by manga and popular Asian imagery. Thus, he describes himself as a manga artist and is an advocate of painting as a sport. His work combines reality and fiction just as his own life does: “The element Japanium and alloy Z are two concepts witch are constantly linked to my work, they are also the definition of my personality”, Arrieta declares. The viewer therefore can´t help but wonder wat is inspired by a comic book and what is taken from reality.

The artist draws and paints using different layers, different dimensions. In each of these layers he seems to be capturing a different language level: fiction, reality, the traditional, the modern, the asian, the western. He constantly change register and offers the viewer an explosion of phrases that may be understood in various ways. “If you know how to read shapes, lines and colors, you´ll be able to get lost in hundreds of diferent stories” , says Judas. “You will have what I consider to be art: to return what has been given to us.” In his case it is Astroboy, Mazinger Z,Doraemon, Shin Chan, Power Rangers. A tribute to pop culture from this heir of the Asian influence tradition that was so important for 19th century artists, and of the comic book culture that has inspired 20th century artists so much.
